State-Mail is an advanced new web interface for the Mail.MSU.EDU mail service. The project was designed using AJAX technology in order to give users an experience much like they would encounter if using a desktop email application. Because of this, State-Mail performs much faster than Mail.MSU.EDU and is much more user friendly. One goal of State-Mail is to make the mail application less like a traditional email application and more of a portal to MSU and the internet for users after they've logged in. After a user logs in they can quickly view the weather, news feeds and soon much more, simply by clicking the "Home" button in the application.

State-Mail would also like to integrate chat with its program, the ability to text phones, and a portfolios section allowing all users to create and maintain a portfolio about themselves. These types of features are a response to the ever growing popularity of social networks and how young adults are sharing information. State-Mail also features a direct link to students AFS space at Michigan State. This allows for students to save files in State-Mail and access them anywhere. This is far better than having to email yourself documents and files as students do today.
